Black Friday and Cyber Monday Woodshop Checklist: What to Verify

A sale price does nothing for you if the motor needs a circuit you do not have, the fence is not in the box or the return terms are unworkable for a 300-pound crate. This checklist covers what to verify before you click, with no deal promises.

Bottom line: In 2026, Thanksgiving is Thursday, November 26, Black Friday is Friday, November 27, and Cyber Monday is Monday, November 30. Before any sale purchase, confirm the motor voltage, what is actually included (fence, guard, riving knife, blade), the written warranty, the return terms for freight items and where replacement parts come from. This guide does not promise or list any deals.
Safety: Electrical work for a new circuit should be done by a qualified electrician, and every machine should be used with its guards and instructions. A discount does not change either.

The 2026 dates and what shipping time means

Time and Date defines Black Friday as the day after Thanksgiving and Cyber Monday as the first Monday after Thanksgiving and Black Friday. The U.S. Office of Personnel Management lists Thanksgiving Day in 2026 as Thursday, November 26. That puts Black Friday on Friday, November 27 (derived from that definition) and Cyber Monday on Monday, November 30, which Time and Date lists directly.

Many sales start before those dates and run after them, so the dates are a guide, not a boundary. What matters more for a heavy machine is delivery time. The FTC's rule for mail, internet and phone orders says a seller must have a reasonable basis to expect to ship within 30 days of a properly completed order when it does not state a time, and that if it cannot ship on time it must offer the buyer a choice between accepting the delay and cancelling for a refund. The same FTC page says refunds are due within seven working days for most payment types.

Read the listing for an actual ship date, not just "in stock". A large machine that ships from a freight warehouse is not a two-day parcel, and a sale item can sell through before it leaves the dock.

Verify the machine, not just the discount

Motor voltage. Check whether the machine is 120 volts, 240 volts or switchable, and whether your shop has a circuit for it. A machine that needs 240 volts may need new wiring and a qualified electrician. Our article on 120V vs 240V woodshop machines explains the trade-off. Confirm the amperage on the maker's spec sheet or manual, not in a sale headline.

What is in the box. Fence, rails, guard, riving knife or splitter, miter gauge, blade, knives and dust port adapters all affect whether you can use the machine on day one. A bundle listing may reuse the photo of the standard version. Compare the "what's included" list to the maker's own page and to the manual's parts list. Missing guarding is not a bargain; read machine guarding and riving knives and splitters.

Exact model number. A seasonal listing's model number may differ from the standard version by a feature or an accessory. Compare the model number and specs to the maker's page. If a number only shows up in sale listings, ask the seller what differs.

Compare

Compare a sale price against used

Search the same machine type used. A used machine with clear photos can beat a sale price on a new one, but inspect it first using the used machine inspection guides.

Check return terms for a heavy item

A parcel return is easy. A freight return is not. Before buying, find out who pays return freight, whether there is a restocking fee, how long you have to report damage, and whether the item must be returned in the original crate. Keep the packing materials until the machine has been assembled and checked. If it arrives damaged, note the damage with the carrier before signing.

On eBay, the Money Back Guarantee covers most transactions where an item does not arrive, is faulty or damaged, or does not match the listing. The same eBay page excludes industrial equipment and heavy machinery and points to a separate business equipment protection. A large stationary woodworking machine may fall under that wording, so confirm what protection applies and read the seller's own return terms in the listing. For an Amazon purchase, read the return terms on the product page for that specific item; they can differ by seller and by size.

The site's guides on buying woodworking machines on eBay and buying open-box woodworking machines go into how to read listings for condition and freight.

Ask for the warranty, in writing

The FTC's guide to federal warranty law says written warranties on consumer products costing more than $15 must be available before sale, and a warranty may only be called "full" if it meets five conditions, including no duty on the buyer beyond notifying the warrantor, service free of charge, and a refund or replacement if repair fails after a reasonable number of tries. If any one is false, the warranty is "limited". A limited warranty is not a red flag by itself, as long as you know exactly what it covers.

Look for who handles service, whether the warranty covers parts and labor, whether a purchase from a particular seller is covered, and how long coverage runs. Do not rely on a sale banner for any of that. Download the manual and the warranty page before you buy.

Check parts and manuals before checkout

A machine is only as good as its supply of belts, blades, inserts, bearings and fences. Before you order, look up the manual and parts diagram, and check that the common wear parts are listed. The site's pages on operator manuals and parts diagrams explain what to look for. A machine with no parts diagram online may be hard to repair.

Think about the first-day budget as well. A blade or cutter, dust fittings, a mobile base and an outfeed support add up. For a machine that will move, see best mobile bases for heavy woodworking machines, and compare the base's load rating to the machine's listed weight.

Budget the extras

Compare the base's stated load rating with the machine's weight in the manual, and leave margin. Used bases are common, so check eBay as well.

The checklist

  1. Write down the 2026 dates you care about and the delivery date promised in the listing.
  2. Confirm motor voltage and amperage from the maker's spec sheet or manual.
  3. Check that your shop has the circuit, or budget for a qualified electrician.
  4. List what is in the box and compare to the maker's own page.
  5. Confirm the fence, guard and riving knife or splitter are included.
  6. Match the exact model number to the maker's page.
  7. Read the written warranty before buying and note what is limited.
  8. Read freight return terms, restocking fees and damage reporting rules.
  9. Find the manual, parts diagram and common wear parts.
  10. Price a used equivalent before you commit.

Reading a sale price

Treat a crossed-out price as a claim, not proof. A few weeks before the sales, save the link and a screenshot of the listing you want, with its included items and shipping terms. On the day you can then see whether the price, the bundle or the freight charge actually changed. If the bundle added accessories you did not want, price the machine alone before you decide.

Also compare the delivered total, not the sticker. Freight, a liftgate, a blade, dust fittings and a mobile base belong in the number. A machine that looks cheaper may need those before it can be used, and a machine that looks pricier may already include them.

If you cannot answer most of these from the listing, ask the seller, or wait. There will be other sales.

Frequently asked questions

When is Black Friday 2026?

Black Friday 2026 is Friday, November 27, the day after Thanksgiving on Thursday, November 26. Cyber Monday is Monday, November 30.

What should I verify before buying a woodworking machine in a holiday sale?

Verify motor voltage, what is included, the exact model, the written warranty, return terms for freight items and the supply of manuals and parts.

Does eBay cover heavy machinery purchases?

eBay's Money Back Guarantee page excludes industrial equipment and heavy machinery and points to a separate protection. Confirm what applies to your item with eBay and the seller.

Does a sale price change the warranty?

A sale should not change a written warranty, but read it. Federal rules require written warranties on consumer products over a set cost to be available before sale.

Should I buy used instead of in a sale?

Sometimes. Compare a used equivalent, and inspect it first. See our used-machine inspection pages for what to check.
